I think that this is great!! I became homeless a week before my 16th birthday. I was again homeless with 4 children in 1999. I can relate to the stories in here so much. I have never forgot what it feels like not to know where I was going to sleep at as a teenager. Its sad when the streets is safer than living with your parents. God bless all of you. Keep up the great work.

  3. What a great idea, and the story in the courant was well done. I would like to get the word out that at the Billings Forge Farmers Market we double the value of SNAP benefits so if you swipe for $5 we give you $10 to spend on fruits, veggies, meat, milk, eggs, bread, and more. Nathan could someone do a short story, or if we needed I would pay for a ad of some kind to go in. Really trying to spread to all the SNAP benefit news Also would be happy to distribute the paper at the market if you would like.

    Thank you

What a fantastic idea! Rita Decker-Perry, you are a saint :) I was just talking to two of the Beat writers earlier today about farmers markets in Hartford and we were listing out as many as we could remember. I think publicizing them, especially the 2-for-1 SNAP benefits offered at the Billings Forge market, would be very helpful to all. It’s important to remember the inter-connectedness of these issues – the need for more affordable housing and healthy foods go hand-in-hand as we work to build a more equitable, sustainable Hartford.

I’m sure someone from the Beat can put an article together – let’s talk soon about other ways we can collaborate and spread the word on the Billings Forge Farmer’s Market and Beat of the Street.
